Next Steps
As an international student, there are a few actions you will need to complete before coming to the United States to study. Follow these steps closely, and reach out to the International Admission team at 603.645.9629 or international@snhu.edu with questions.
Obtain Your Visa
Most international students study in the United States with an F-1 visa. A smaller number of students have a J-1 visa, which is usually reserved for short-term exchange students.
Follow these steps to obtain your student visa:
1. Receive your I-20 (for F-1 visas) or DS-2019 (for J-1 visas) from International Admission
Upon acceptance, you will need to submit a color copy of your passport, proof of financial support and a financial affidavit form. (Please note: all financial documents must either be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation.) Instructions can be found under our admission requirements. Before moving to the next step, review your documents to make sure all information is accurate.
2. Pay your SEVIS fee
3. Locate your closest embassy or consulate
4. Apply for a visa
5. Schedule your visa interview appointment
6. Gather required documents and prepare for the interview
7. Contact SNHU with the result
Access your mySNHU Account & Student Email
The mySNHU student portal is your central access point to all things SNHU, including your SNHU email account, our academic portal called Brightspace and our bill payment system. Shortly after being accepted, your login credentials were emailed to you and access to select mySNHU pages was granted. Once you pay your SEVIS fee, full access to mySNHU will become available.
The first time you log in to your mySNHU account, click on ‘use this link to create/reset your password’ and follow the prompts to create your personal SNHU password. If you have problems logging into your account, you can contact the SNHU Help Desk by calling 1.855.877.9919. For help with your credentials, reach out to the Campus International Admission office at 603.645.9629.
Check your SNHU email account regularly so you don’t miss any important info. On the mySNHU home page, click on the ‘SNHU webmail’ link to access your inbox. Academic advising and residence life will use your SNHU email to connect with you about your class schedule and campus housing assignment. You’ll also receive an email about registering for orientation.
Housing
On-campus housing is available for undergraduate and graduate students, with the exception of married students. On-campus housing is limited, so we recommend you make your reservation early. Students who wish to live off campus will be responsible for finding their own housing arrangements. You can explore housing options before making your decision.

At Southern New Hampshire University, your wellbeing is our priority. Help keep you and your peers safe by submitting required documentation.
Required Medical Records
Your doctor must complete the medical record forms included in your acceptance packet. All international students (undergraduate, graduate and doctoral) taking classes on campus must complete the following health requirements:
- Medical history summary form
- Physical exam report within 24 months of expected start date
- Tuberculosis screen and official tuberculosis test results (skin, blood or chest x-ray report) completed no more than 6 months before arrival
- Proof of immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B, meningitis and varicella
Students must provide this information prior to check in and orientation for their first term. Failure to do so will prevent registration of future academic terms. Lack of compliance can delay your move to campus or your start date. You can review the full university policy.
All international students are required to purchase the health insurance policy provided by SNHU unless you have an equivalent U.S. policy through your government scholarship or parent/spouse working in the U.S. or Canada. Insurance will be billed to your SNHU account on a regular basis. Please make sure to carry proof of insurance at all times.
Preparing Your Medical Records
- Required documents must be original and translated into English
- Students must contact their health care provider prior to their arrival at SNHU
- If students are not able to submit the required documents on mySNHU, they may contact the wellness center at +1.603.645.9679 or wellness@snhu.edu for assistance
Submitting Your Medical Records
Have your doctor complete the medical record forms included in your acceptance packet. Follow the steps below to submit these requirements:
- Log in to mySNHU
- Scroll to the bottom of the home page and click on “Patient Portal/Medical Records” under the “wellness” heading
- Complete all forms under “Required Forms,” including the “SNHU Medical Record Form”
- Click the “Upload” tab to submit your documentation
