The Wolak Learning Center helps SNHU students develop their skills and confidence to achieve their academic goals.
Located on the second floor of the Shapiro Library, the Wolak Learning Center is available to students enrolled in courses on the Manchester campus and provides academic support services and programs at no additional cost.
Support services include:
Tutoring
The Wolak Learning Center offers tutoring to students in select SNHU courses through drop-in and individual tutoring. Additionally, peer educators are hired as class-embedded tutors in certain courses to provide an additional resource to students and faculty members.
- Drop-in tutoring
During designated times throughout the semester, students can stop by without an appointment to receive support with their coursework. Tutors help with understanding concepts and developing study strategies. This service allows students to get immediate support, making it a convenient option for those seeking guidance on specific questions or ongoing academic challenges. - One-to-one tutoring
One-to-one tutoring is a personalized, one-on-one academic support service where a student works individually with a tutor to improve their understanding of course material, develop study skills and enhance their overall academic performance. One-to-one tutoring is offered by request and based on tutor availability. - Class-embedded tutoring
Class-embedded tutoring is a collaborative support service that integrates a tutor directly into a course to enhance student learning and success. Tutors attend class sessions weekly to assist with in-class activities, reinforce key concepts and provide real-time academic support. In addition to in-class assistance, they lead review sessions for exams and offer dedicated tutoring hours outside of class, tailored specifically to the course material.
Academic coaching
Academic coaching provides personalized support to help students improve their academic performance, develop independent learning skills and achieve their educational goals. These one-on-one or small-group sessions offer structured guidance in accountability, resource utilization, goal setting, academic skill development and self-management strategies. This process empowers students to build effective academic habits, leading to long-term success.
Workshops and review sessions
Workshops are interactive sessions that help students develop essential academic and writing skills. Led by Wolak Learning Center coordinators in collaboration with faculty, these workshops cover topics like scholarship essay writing, MLA/APA formatting and research strategies. Workshops provide practical guidance, hands-on activities and expert support to help students strengthen their abilities and apply new techniques to their coursework.
Review sessions are course-specific study sessions led by tutors or instructors to help students prepare for exams. They cover important material, clarify challenging concepts and provide practice opportunities to strengthen understanding.
Written feedback
Written feedback is an asynchronous tutoring service that provides students with detailed, constructive feedback on their written assignments. Students can submit their essays online and receive personalized suggestions within 24-48 hours. Feedback focuses on areas such as organization, clarity, argument development and academic writing conventions. This service helps students refine their writing skills and strengthen their work before final submission.
Tutor.com
Tutor.com is an online service available for select courses, providing students with 24/7 academic support with professional tutors in various subjects. Through Tutor.com, students can receive real-time tutoring and access study resources. This flexible, on-demand service complements in-person academic resources on campus.
Peer educator training
If you are interested in becoming a peer educator, we welcome the opportunity to speak with you about requirements and on-going training. Students who have participated in the program have found that it adds another dimension to their learning experience at SNHU and provides a vital service for their peers.
Learning Strategies Seminar
LSS-100: Learning Strategies Seminar is a 3-credit course for first-semester students who could benefit from support with essential learning skills and strategies. The course aims to help students become more independent and successful in their academics. Through organized lessons and hands-on practice, students learn effective study habits, time management, critical thinking, and self-advocacy. LSS-100 helps students take charge of their own learning, building confidence and enhancing their overall educational experience.
