Throughout your undergraduate psychology studies, you'll gain a thorough understanding of psychological principles and how to apply them to social and organizational issues. In addition to 9 required and 4 elective psychology classes, you'll take core liberal arts courses and 39 credits of free electives. This coursework will build your understanding of psychology applications and strengthen your communication and critical thinking skills.

You'll learn how kids develop from birth through adolescence and gain the experience needed to work with young people in a variety of settings. This concentration can also prepare you to enter a graduate program in psychology or the social sciences.

Dr. Justina Oliveira's research focuses on workplace and social issues, including law enforcement experiences, ethical considerations in survey design, public perceptions of transgender military veterans, Latinas' workplace discrimination and the impact of positive mentorship. She actively involves undergraduates in her projects, with many earning authorship through collaboration. Her conference presentations and publications also highlight creative teaching methods, such as using poetry, music and photography, as well as civic engagement through service-learning and community-based projects.

Dr. Michael Hendery is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice. At SNHU, he advises Psi Chi (the International Honor Society in Psychology) and serves on both the Institutional Review Board and the SAS Curriculum Committee. He's also a member of the American Psychological Association. His current research centers on the mentalization process in college students.

Campus Student Experience So, what's it like taking classes on campus?
SNHU partners with community businesses and mental health agencies, so you can build direct field experience. With many of our courses incorporating a service-learning component, you could volunteer at after-school programs, ESL programs or other community placements.
We know you want to be immersed in the actual work that psychologists do. That's why you have the opportunity to get involved at places like Concord Mental Health Court, VA Boston Healthcare and the Sununu Youth Services Center.
If you're interested in going to graduate school, you might join our faculty-led research teams. There, you could study topics like memory and virtual reality, language and social psychology. You can also develop your own independent study under a faculty advisor to pursue one of your passions. You might even get a chance to present your work at Undergraduate Research Day.
