At SNHU, the education for licensure program offers a comprehensive approach to understanding human development, educational systems and teaching strategies. You'll explore key aspects of learner development, from sociological and cultural influences to psychological growth, and gain insights into the foundations of education, including its history, philosophy and current challenges. You'll also study specialized topics like assistive technology and the diverse needs of students. With hands-on teaching experiences in real classrooms, you'll apply theory to practice under the guidance of experienced educators.

Are you a transfer student who holds an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) in Education or Early Childhood Education? With our Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Elementary Education for Licensure (2+2) program, you can block transfer 60 credits and earn a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in just 2 years.
Once enrolled, you'll gain comprehensive knowledge of instructional theory and practice, ending with a year-long student teaching residency. In addition to a degree, you'll also earn a New Hampshire elementary teaching certification for grades K-6 upon graduating, positioning you as a highly marketable job candidate.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in Early Childhood Education degree prepares you to teach early learners in preschool through third grade in New Hampshire and many other states. You'll gain field experience and be ready for a number of career opportunities in classrooms and other settings. In this program, you'll study child development, family systems and curriculum and instruction methods that reflect the unique needs of children from preschool through age 8.
Make a positive impact on the lives of learners with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in Early Childhood Special Education. This program helps prepare you for eligibility to earn teaching certification in early childhood special education (N-3). Teachers with this certification are qualified to teach children with disabilities from birth through grade 3.
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in Early Childhood Education with Early Childhood Special Education prepares you to teach early learners with exceptionalities. You will gain field experience in a variety of general education and special education settings as you gear up for a number of career opportunities, including eligibility for your teaching certificate for children with exceptionalities (newborn-grade 3). In this concentration, you'll study child development, family systems and children with exceptionalities, as well as curriculum and instruction methods that incorporate the unique needs of all children.
Only School of Education courses with a grade of "C-" or better may be used toward New Hampshire teacher certification requirements. Any School of Education courses with a grade lower than a "C-" may be used for graduation credits but will need to be repeated with an earned grade of "C-" or higher to be applied toward State of New Hampshire teacher certification.
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in Elementary Education program will help you understand and prepare for the rigors of teaching in an elementary school setting. You'll feel confident entering the classroom with the knowledge, leadership skills and experience needed to make a difference in the lives of students. In addition to academic learning, you may choose from several fieldwork settings. You'll learn from faculty with real-world teaching experience who serve on local, state and national education boards.
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in Elementary Education with General Special Education provides you with comprehensive knowledge of instructional theory and practice and general special education. You'll examine traditional and innovative research-based approaches to teaching a diverse population of students with disabilities. This program can help make you a highly marketable candidate for both elementary education and special education teaching positions.
The elementary education with special education concentration leads to New Hampshire elementary teaching certification for grades K-6 and New Hampshire general special education teaching certification for grades K-12. Elementary education certification K-8 is available with a content concentration. Eligibility for the K-8 certification is determined by a transcript audit completed by the School of Education.
Community college graduates also have the option to enroll in a full elementary education with general special education degree program. It's a teacher residency program providing graduates with comprehensive knowledge of instructional theory and practice and a content area concentration in general special education.

As a special education major, you'll learn the skills essential to working with exceptional students – one-on-one or in general, inclusion and resource classroom settings. In addition, the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in General Special Education gives you the knowledge, leadership skills and experience to make a difference in the classroom. The program prepares New Hampshire-based students for eligibility for teaching certification for grades K-12 in general special education. Teachers with this certification are qualified to teach children with disabilities in all settings.
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in Middle School Science Education program leads to certification for middle-level science grades 5-8. The program provides you with strong scientific knowledge and a good sense of science learning that take place during the middle grades. Throughout this program, courses integrate knowledge of science, knowledge of teaching and scientific knowledge for teaching. The program provides graduates with a comprehensive knowledge of instructional theory and practice while examining traditional and innovative research-based approaches to teaching middle school science.
In SNHU's Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education for Licensure with a concentration in Social Studies Education program, you'll examine traditional, innovative and research-based approaches to teaching. From your first semester, you'll combine classroom knowledge and theory with hands-on field experience, culminating in a year-long student teaching position during your senior year. You'll also benefit from a well-rounded liberal arts education, along with focused training in the skills, techniques and experiences needed to help middle and high school students achieve their full potential. The subject matter covers the primary areas of history, government, economics and geography, as well as secondary areas of psychology and sociology.

Before joining SNHU, Jennifer Carrobis taught elementary and middle school mathematics for more than a decade. Her experience took her to multiple school districts in New Hampshire, including Hooksett, Manchester and Bedford, where she taught students in grades K-8. Carrobis was a member of the STEM Committee at Cawley Middle School, where she also served as the 2015 summer school coordinator. She's certified in middle school mathematics in New Hampshire.

Prior to joining SNHU in 2022 as an assistant professor of general special education, Dr. Abigail Bergen served as an associate director of support services in the Kearsarge Regional School District in New Hampshire. Bergen has completed publications and presentations on the topic of special education and has been recognized with the Emerging Leader Award from the New Hampshire Association of Special Education Administrators. Bergen was also accepted by the International Symposium on Education (ISED) to be a member of the active research team in Belize in June 2023.
